RECOVERY CORPS SEEKS TO FUND SUMMER PROGRAMS IN ACADIANA AND SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA
BATON ROUGE, La. -The Louisiana Family Recovery Corps issued today a request for proposals to organizations in the Acadiana and Southwest parishes to provide recreational summer programs to youth impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Agencies encouraged to apply include non-profit, faith-based and community-based organizations currently providing programs or planning to offer programs during the summer months. If awarded funding, recipients must agree to offer educational and recreational activities to children ages three through eighteen that have been displaced or affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Proposals will only be considered from applicants located in the hurricane-affected Acadiana and Southwest parishes of Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermillion and West Baton Rouge. RFP's have already been issued and closed for other areas of the state and an announcement of funding recipients is forthcoming.
Proposals must be submitted to the Recovery Corps office no later than Friday, June 22, 2007. Contract awards will be expended until funding is exhausted. Priority will be given to applicants that are able to provide therapeutic mental health activities, provide lessons that enhance intellectual and artistic abilities, serve children with disabilities and create opportunities to explore and identify career paths. Funding for this initiative is provided by both public and private sources and is not intended to be used for additional hours of school activities or remediation purposes.
