These are Louisiana's Faces of Recovery. These are the faces of Louisianians who have faced unparalleled challenges and overcome undue strife in the wake of the worst natural disaster to ever hit the United States.
When hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike unleashed their furious wrath on Louisiana, hundreds of thousands of families were left with nowhere to turn. Their homes were destroyed, their neighborhoods disappeared, and life as they knew it was gone forever.
The Louisiana Family Recovery Corps quickly stepped in to begin to help fill the voids left in so many families' lives. Since January 2006, the Recovery Corps has allocated more than $80 million to recovery efforts and assisted more than 30,000 households (representing more than 100,000 individuals) in getting their lives back to some semblance of normalcy.
While thousands have been assisted, many more have been overlooked and underserved. Everyday we see the continued need to assist those families still trying hard to conquer the recovery process.
Further, the people of Louisiana still remain vulnerable to future disasters because Louisiana has yet to adopt a Long-Term Human Recovery Plan. The Recover Corps is working diligently on incorporating such a plan within the state’s Emergency Operations Plan, but needs your assistance in making this happen.
Please consider making a monetary donation to the Recovery Corps today. With your assistance, we can help the people of Louisiana and the United States by furthering the effort to establish a Long-Term Human Recovery Plan for the state of Louisiana and the nation, allowing the Recovery Corps to advocate around issues critical to long-term human recovery, and allowing the Recovery Corps to engage in important research around issues directly associated with disaster recovery.
